He joined the company on 1st June, 2010, and he has worked relentlessly towards ensuring that the company is able to bring about an enhancement in its mining capacity. He formulated a plan for enhancing the company’s mining potential. He also prepared detailed project reports for enhancing the capacity from 3.2 MTPA to 12.4 MTPA.

Avijit Ghosh obtained the approval from the company’s board for the capacity enhancement of the existing mines and the reopening of closed mines. He also helped in the opening of various greenfield mines. This further highlights his focus on sustainable mining operations. While at Hindustan Copper Limited, Avijit Ghosh also brought about an improvement in the company’s mining methodologies to increase its production. He assisted in the opening of various closed mines. This further boosted the company’s mining potential and allowed it to achieve its mining goals.

His Focus On Enhancing HEC’s Production Capacity:

Avijit Ghosh’s mining potential in the mining sector is not just restricted to his contributions to Hindustan Copper Limited. When Avijit Ghosh joined Heavy Engineering Corporation, the company was facing various challenges. Its production capacity had gone down drastically.

There were multiple reasons behind the downgrading of capacity. This included:

  • The use of old equipment and machinery causing less productivity, a longer production cycle, and higher operational costs.
  • Lack of working capital resulting from cumulative losses.
  • Use of outdated technology and lack of product diversification.

Upon joining the company, Avijit Ghosh helped address all the challenges. He arranged funds from various potential sources to ensure that the company has the required working capital to carry out its business operations. He designed a modernisation plan to ensure that the company’s business operations are carried out in a smooth and effective manner. He also proposed to replace all the old and outdated equipment and technology with new ones to ensure a faster production cycle and to increase the production capacity.

Avijit Ghosh also had a big role to play in finalising the CAPEX plan along with the business plan for HEC. He allowed the company to enter into technical tie-ups for new product development. He single-handedly ran the company’s operations in the absence of all the directors. Because of his endless efforts, the company started improving its performance by reducing its losses by 40% within a year. He also took up various new initiatives for the company.

Other Contributions to the Mining Sector:

Avijit Ghosh had various other contributions to the mining sector. He helped in increasing the production capacity for Jindal Steel and Power. He ensured smooth mining operations at the Tensa Iron Ore Mine in Odisha. He also had a leading role to play in purchasing Bihar Alloys in Jharkhand for Jindal Steel and Power, which was a sick plant and not in operation for over a decade. This allowed Jindal Steel and Power to acquire 600 acres of land.This helped JSPL to establish base in Jharkhand. The company commissioned state of art rolling mill and bar mill at Jharkhand.

Avijit Ghosh also installed a cone crusher at Tensa Mines, thereby enhanching Iron Ore Production.. Other than that, Ghosh also managed and monitored mining operations for Indian Aluminium Company and Raymond Cement Works. He had brought about an enhancement in the operation of various Bauxite Mines and Kaolin Plant for the Indian Aluminium Company. Avijit Ghosh’s Vision also involved ensuring that the cement production for Raymond Cement Works gets carried out in a smooth manner.
